KWAR 2004 Marshalate Policy

The marshalate policy for KWAR, including melees and what to do if you are not an authorized fighter in the SCA :

Everyone: If you are a paid member of the SCA with a blue card, bring your blue card. Those without a blue card will be required to sign an event waver roster to register for KWAR. Parents or LEGAL guardians must sign for waivers for youth. See event waiver in PDF.

Rules: KWAR will use the SCA rules as a standard. You will be required to follow the SCA's Rapier rules. These may be different than your Kingdom's rapier rules. See the SCA Rapier Combat Handbook in PDF.

Melee Conventions: You can see the conventions that will be used for melees at KWAR here.

Adults: If you are an authorized fighter in any kingdom, please bring your authorization card. Those who cannot show us a current card must sign a combat waiver. You do not need to be an authorized fighter to participate in KWAR. See combat waiver.

Youth: KWAR WILL be open to youth 12 and up from all kingdoms. See a full marshalate policy below, but in short: 16 & 17 years -- full participation; 14 & 15 years -- no melees; 12 & 13 years -- epee/foil only, no melees, parent or designated adult AT THE FIELD/CLASS and a Youth Rapier Marshal present during all martial activities. Of course, various forms will need to be signed as outlined below.

KWAR Youth Marshal late Policies

Youth aged at least 12, but no more than 17 years old may attend KWAR and participate in KWAR activities as outlined below. Classes and sparring activities at KWAR will be considered to be controlled practice or training situations.

Youth 16, 17

Youth aged at least 16, but no more than 17 years old may participate with adults in all KWAR activities including melees.

Authorization/Waiver
  • Youth must be authorized to participate in combat activities in their Kingdom of residence and be able to show proof in the form of a Fighter Authorization Card.
  • An Ansteorran Youth Combat Waiver Form in place of an authorization card may be signed by the youth and their Parent/Legal Guardian and filed at registration.
Parent or Legal Guardian
  • A parent/legal guardian must attend KWAR with the youth but does not have to be present at each activity.
  • Another adult aged at least 21 years may attend in place of the parent/legal guardian with a signed and notarized Minor Event Waiver Form and a signed Minor Event Medical Authorization Form.

Youth 14, 15

Youth aged at least 14, but no more than 16 years old may participate in all KWAR Activities with the Adult participants except melees.

Authorization/Waiver
  • Youth must be authorized to participate in combat activities in their Kingdom of residence and be able to show proof in the form of a Fighter Authorization Card.
  • An Ansteorran Youth Combat Waiver Form in place of an authorization card may be signed by the youth and their Parent/Legal Guardian and filed at registration.
Parent or Legal Guardian
  • A parent/legal guardian must attend KWAR with the youth but does not have to be present at each activity.
  • Another adult aged at least 21 years may attend in place of the parent/legal guardian with a signed and notarized Minor Event Waiver Form and a signed Minor Event Medical Authorization Form.

Youth 12, 13

Youth over the age of at least 12, but no more than 14 years old may not participate in melee activities but may attend all classes and may participate in sparring.

Authorization/Waiver
  • Youth must be authorized to participate in combat activities in their Kingdom of residence and be able to show proof in the form of a Fighter Authorization Card.
  • An Ansteorran Youth Combat Waiver Form in place of an authorization card may be signed by the youth and their Parent/Legal Guardian and filed at registration.
Parent or Legal Guardian
  • A parent/legal guardian must be present at each combat activity with the youth.
  • Another adult aged at least 21 years may attend in place of the parent/legal guardian with a signed and notarized Minor Event Waiver Form and a signed Minor Event Medical Authorization Form.
Marshals
  • Youth no more than 14 years old must have an authorized Youth Rapier Marshall present at each combat activity. It will be the responsibility of each Youth Rapier Fighter and their Parent/Guardian/Adult to arrange for a Youth Rapier Marshall to be present.
Weapons
  • Youth no more than 14 years old are restricted to using foils, epees, flexidagger blades and standard defensive secondaries.

Youth Forms and what to do with them.

Youth Combat Waiver Form: Must be signed by parents/legal guardian. A copy must be surrendered and kept on file at KWAR Registration.

Minor Event Waiver Form: Must be signed by parents/legal guardian. A NOTARIZED copy must be surrendered and kept on file at KWAR Registration.

Minor Medical Authorization Form: Must be signed by parents/legal guardian. Must be presented at KWAR registration desk. A copy must be kept on the responsible adults person at all times.

It is suggested that you bring three copies of each as needed to the event. Surrender one set at the registration desk and the adult and the youth each keep one set on their person at all times throughout the event.
